Points to Consider While Switch Over iPhone Carriers – AT&T and Verizon

This is a time when people need to consider some points while switching over iPhone carriers. The switch is often required by people who are not happy with the costs involved or the features of their present provider. The iPhone comes in two variants – AT&T and Verizon. While the former is a GSM provider the latter provides a CDMA version of the iPhone. Here are some points you should consider before switching over iPhone carriers.

1.    Network Coverage –
This is the first and foremost criteria if you need the best calling and messaging experience. Let's have it – the iPhone has become a handheld computer but still, calling is the primary task. If you don't get good support on that, it becomes a total waste altogether. This is why network coverage of the providers must be taken into account. For now, AT&T seems to lead the race, being far ahead of Verizon, but having said that, it should also be noted that both providers have good coverage and are upgrading it this year.

2.    GSM, CDMA – The debate between GSM and CDMA is a never-ending one. We thought CDMA phones are gone for good but here comes the iPhone 4 on CDMA with Verizon! No one expected iPhone to support CDMA but that does mean something – Apple supporting CDMA is not a joke. But CDMA, if you happen to travel to European countries a lot, does not hold that much good for you. It is in fact not of any use. GSM is here to stay and with rumors of 4G coming up, GSM will hold the market.

3.    Multitasking Capabilities – On CDMA, there is very little multitasking. You can make a call and browse a website simultaneously. But GPS has multitasking on full-swing and lets you do a lot of other functions through the SIM even as you call. These various features make GPS far more powerful than CDMA.

4.    Cost – Last but not the least, cost is an important deciding factor. One needs to calculate the call costs, the message plans, the data plans and all other costs involved before one finally decides on which provider to go after. Switching iPhone carriers is easy but one definitely needs to know how it would affect your mobile expenses. This again depends on which you use more – data, calls or messages!
